SAXON + SKID ROW (Roxy Club, Prague) [2014-11-16]

A weird night for me because not so often I go to concerts when I prefer to see the support band and even less when I have to travel to do it.
I like SKID ROW so much but I had discarded going to this concert because they were playing on Sunday and I had to work on Monday but in the last moment I realized that Monday was going to be bank holiday so all of the sudden we were on our way to Prague.

We arrived quite early and saw the entire show of the first support band Halcyon Way. Not my style at all, was a strange mix of quite agressive metal sound with melodic metal, guttural voicals with "normal" vocals, too many backing vocals, etc. I don´t know, I was not motivated at all for this so I got bored.

SKID ROW

Finally was time for I was waiting for. As I was expecting SKID ROW started with a not very good sound as they were "just" a support band and we all know what this usually means they are doom to sound worse than headliners. They opened the gig with "Slave to the Grind" and until half of the song the sound was not completely set up, specially the vocals took a bit to have the proper good sound and who knows if also singer was still warming up (´cause I really couldn´t hear him clearly during the first 2 minutes).
The lights were also kind of insufficient as it was even way too dark. I know SKID ROW usually don´t have a big light show but still was too poor. So again, being the support band was not helping for this.
Of course the band very well, as the other times I've seen them, very good attitude and good vibes with the public, also still they look humble.

As for the performing all very correct, both guitarists, as always, very good, very powerful bass and Bolan exercising leadership as obvious. The singer, as I said earlier started a little shaky but he did great in general.

It is clear that always looks much as it is the replacement of the beloved Sebastian Bach but honestly I don´t miss at all since they have this singer who perfectly fills that gap and with the rest of the  band that sounds awesome and releasing new more decent music than Bach (SKID ROW new music sounds with much more strength and nastiness)

It was very short, it did not even get an hour. On one hand very badly because I was looking forward to a lot more on the other side was a non-stop with powerful hits with no timefor comedown, so let's say that was quite intense . Hope to see them soon, but as a main band of course.

SAXON

I have to be honest, I've never been a big SAXON fan. It´s a group I've always been aware that they do very well, they work hard in the studio and touring and are out there since forever but I don´t really know why but I have never reached to love them, They have great songs I have to give that to them, but I do not know ... something is missing. Anyway we had to see them since we were there and bought the ticket and what the hell because is always good to see a concert with a certain quality.

If it is true that I felt the show was a bit too long due to fatigue of all day with the trip and so on, but I have to admit that yes, SAXON are a great band and still have a freat live performance. In their case they enjoyed a very good sound and lighting that made his performance almost perfect. Not many thins to add as they´re not on of "my" bands but I have to say they´re an awesome band.

A great night of rock with 2 very important groups in different styles but making worthwhile to pay for tickets and travel if necessary.

In the wait between concerts we met Scotti Hill from SKID ROW and we took some pictures with him, very nice guy, He liked Lucas´t-shirt and told him his shirt was "old school" cool.
